Ludford William "Lud" Elvy Jr. - ELVY, Ludford William, Jr. - Nov. 12, 1926 â?? Sept. 11, 2007. A native of Sebastopol, Lud passed away peacefully at age 80. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Glenda, his four children, Walter (Anny), Joanna (Kevin) Caldwell, David (Gwen), Karen Yvonne (Paul) Johnson, 6 grandchildren, his sister Wilma, and numerous relatives.
He served the community in many ways including as a painter and a handyman. He was very involved in the Community Church of Sebastopol, UCC, and UCC Camp Cazadero for most of his life. His artistry, craftsmanship, sense of humor and his mastery of storytelling will be missed by many. His family greatly appreciates the outpouring of love and many acts of kindness from people near and far during his illness. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 3:30pm at the Community Church of Sebastopol, 1000 Gravenstein Hwy No., Sebastopol, CA 95472. Donations may be made to Community Church of Sebastopol Memorial Fund in his name.
Lud was born in Sebastopol to parents Cora (Miller) Elvy, also born in Sebastopol in 1893, and Ludford William Elvy, born in England in 1890, and to sisters Harriet, Wilma and Phyllis. Lud attended local schools including Creighton Ridge School, Sebastopol Union Grammar School (Parkside Elementary) and graduated from Analy High School in 1944.
