Exactly nine years to the day after her only brother entered the Kingdom of Heaven, Mabel June Nelson joined him in the company of her Lord and Savior. 84 year old Mabel was born on December 14, 1930 in Petaluma - the fourth child of Attilio and Rose Cincera. On June 24, 1950, she married the love of her life, Robert B. Nelson. Mabel worked for many years as a full-charge bookkeeper, but her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren.
Mabel grew up in Petaluma, attending Payran Elementary School and Petaluma Junior High and High School. She was a majorette in the Petaluma High marching band. After being reintroduced the day Bob returned from military service during a gathering at Penngrove Community Hall, they married in Reno several years later and settled down in Cotati, building a home on the land of her father-in-law's former chicken ranch. Mabel enjoyed fishing with her family and friends, spending many hours at Bodega Bay and on the Sonoma Coast beaches fishing for perch, rock fishing, poke-pole fishing, or watching her husband surf fish. While at home Mabel tended a large garden. Countless friends and family have been recipients of fruits, vegetables and jams, including juicy raspberries and olallieberries. Another favorite pastime was needlework, particularly embroidery and crocheting. Children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many friends have been recipients of dishtowels, kitchen towels, and beautiful afghans. Her favorite delight was beating her husband in their daily cribbage games.
Known as Chuffee to her family, Mabel's love of life, wonderful smile, sense of humor, and kindness will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. She truly loved all of her friends and family members. Mabel was preceded in death by her father Attilio, mother Rose, stepfather James Riscoini, her brother Silvio (Boy) Cincera, and numerous aunts and uncles. Also greeting her in heaven was nephew Kenny. She is survived by her husband Bob Nelson, son Jim (wife Michelle), daughter Kim (husband Steve), grandson Michael, granddaughter Heather and soon-to-be-born great-granddaughter Reagan, as well as her two sisters Virginia (Malnati) and Annie (Allena) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mabel will be greatly missed by all of us here on Earth, but no more so than by her fishing and cribbage partner of 64 years, Bob. Private funeral services are being held at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory, Petaluma, CA. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite charity in Mabel's name.
