Madelyn Joan Lunny

MADELYN JOAN LUNNY of Inverness, daughter of Andrew J. Gawley and Madelyn O’Connor Gawley passed on June 10, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born in San Francisco October 16, 1932 and attended Presentation High School and SF College for Women. In 1951 Joan was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Joseph A Lunny Jr. and joined Joe at the Lunny Ranch in Inverness where she spent her entire life as a loving wife, business partner, mother and homemaker. Joan was ever calm and serene in her faith.  She was a giving parishioner of Sacred Hearth Catholic Church for 67 years where she spent decades teaching catechism to young children. Joan had a lighthearted spirit, strong intellect, and the giving heart of an angel with an infectious love of life.

Joan loved children and had mother’s special love for Joe (Diane,) Ginny (Steve), Chrissy (Dave), Kevin (Nancy), Carolyn (Mark) and Bob (Kathleen).

As a homemaker she was strong, capable and tireless, always striving to make everything better. She loved to decorate and make home a warm inviting place, comfortable for taking care of her family and welcoming for family and friends who would come to visit. Joan was an exceptional cook and was forever experimenting on a new recipe. It was not uncommon for her to feed large numbers of unexpected guests and prepare a gourmet meal.  She loved collecting cookbooks from every wonderful place she would visit during her family travels. She also enjoyed boating, family vacations, reading and later in life, her iPad as she kept in touch with her 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren through social media.

Her vast loving family will forever cherish Joan’s beautiful life.

The Lunny family will celebrate Joan’s life at a funeral mass at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 19, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like any donations in Joan’s memory to be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Olema, CA.
