Peggy (Margaret) Canelis passed away peacefully on June 9th, 2015 at age 91. Born January 6, 1924, she was a lifelong resident of Cazadero. Born to Martha and Mike Bohan, she grew up on the family ranch and was preceded in death by her six siblings - Fran (John Bei), Mick Bohan (Leona), Patrick Bohan, Betty Gluch (Stan), Jim Bohan (Vera), and Dan Bohan (Billie). Married to Theseus Canelis for 53 years until his death in 1999, she was the loving mother and mother-in-law to Homer Canelis (Christine), Karen Baur (George), and Tim Canelis (Karen). She was the proud grandmother to 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
While a student at Analy High School, with her red hair and charm, she attracted the attention of her future husband Theseus, a SRJC student employed by the district as a bus driver. After he returned from WWII, they married in Cazadero on February 24, 1946 and started Bohan and Canelis Excavating and began raising their family. Peggy was the town Postmaster for many years and was active in the St. Coleman's Guild and the Cazadero Community Club.
Peggy was part of the greatest generation and she will be greatly missed.
A mass in celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 20th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Coleman's Outdoor Catholic Church and will be followed by a reception at the Cazadero Fire House.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Coleman's Guild, Cazadero or the Cazadero Community Club.
