Marie Baur - Born in Munich, Germany on May 31, 1912, and passed away in Petaluma on March 31, 2010. She was the last of three sisters and one brother. Marie came to Petaluma in 1928 and was employed as a housekeeper for Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McClay. In early 1942, she married Adam Baur and they started their life together on their chicken ranch. Adam passed away in 1975 and Marie continued to live on the ranch the rest of her life. Marie is survived by her daughter Betty Rieger and her son George Baur and wife Karen. Marie also has three grandchildren, Kristy Brooks (Eric), Amy Schafbuch (Tim) and Joe Rieger (Christa). Also survived by five great-grandchildren, Ava, Vivian, Tenley, Calvin and Eddie. All live in the Petaluma area.
Marie was a member of the Petaluma Garden Club, St. Vincent's Catholic Ladies Aide Society and an 82 year member of the Hermann Sons Lodge (the local German club). Up until recent years, she enjoyed swimming with friends at the Redwood Club. Marie loved her family, enjoyed working in her garden and getting together with her many friends. She loved to read and travel and had been back to Germany many times. She was one of the first people to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge the day it opened. And on the 50th anniversary she crossed it again with her children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank Hospice of Petaluma and her caregivers. Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 7:00 PM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 35 Liberty St., Petaluma. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran St., Petaluma, CA 94952 or your favorite charity. Private Interment: Liberty Cemetery.
