Martha Elizabeth Sabourin, née Webb, a longtime resident of Petaluma died on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the age of 96 after a recent illness. A devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother, she will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Born and raised in Topeka, Kansas, Martha graduated from the University of Kansas. While working in Denver, she became friends with sisters of the man she would marry, Leonard Sabourin. The couple started a family in Edmonds, Washington, moving to Petaluma in 1972. All five of her children survive: Greg and wife Amy, of Santa Rosa; Kevin and wife Sue, of Truckee; Doug and wife Debi, of Glenoma, Washington; Corey and partner Carlos Gutiérrez, of New York City; Cynthia Schlipp and husband Jim, of St. Joseph, Michigan. Her beloved husband, a World War II veteran, preceded her in death.
Martha, a two-time breast cancer survivor, greatly enjoyed the beauty of Sonoma County and donated time to local programs like the Interfaith Food Pantry. She was active at Elim Lutheran Church, an avid fan of Bay Area sports, and cultivated roses at her home on the west side, where she spent her final days surrounded by family. She is also survived by a sister, Jane Mark, of Hillsboro, Oregon, grandchildren Kate Sabourin, Ashley Schlipp, Kaley Schlipp, and Jenna Schlipp, and nieces Susan Todd and Tori Pendergrass.
A memorial will be held at Elim Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 28th at 11:00 am. In memoriam donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Elim Lutheran Church, 504 Baker Street, Petaluma, CA 94952.
