MAXINE D. WETJEN entered into rest February 25, 2014 in Petaluma, with loving family at her side. Age 84, she was a beautiful and strong woman.
Born in Odessa, Washington, January 11, 1930, she was the second of five children born to Joseph and Rose Chappell, both from pioneering families. Her father died when she was six and Rose raised the family through the depression as a single mother. Maxine attended schools in Harrington, Washington for 11 years. She was active in many clubs and as a senior she was managing editor for the school paper and yearbook, played in band and was on the tennis team.
Having graduated high school in 1947, she attended Kelsey-Baird school in Spokane. Upon graduation she went to San Francisco and worked for Bank of America and Macy's. Married in 1951, she traveled to many foreign countries over 18 years going wherever the army stationed them. Stationed with the Army @ Presidio in the early fifties, then on to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina in 1955, Japan in 1956, El Paso, Texas in 1960 and on to Germany for 3 years. She settled in Petaluma in 1970 and finished raising her 5 children.
She instilled her values of hard work, schooling, honesty, timeliness and family in each of her children. She never missed a school function, baseball game, soccer game, graduation, or boy scout outing. She was an avid sewer, quilter, great cook and pie maker. She loved the simple things in life and spread that love to her children, grandkids and great grandkids.
Mother of Judy Jo Pelton (Scott), William (Lynn), Gary and Harold. Preceded in death by her loving son Mark. Five grandchildren: Dawn Romero, Tracy Wetjen, Tricia Giede, Jennifer Lilley and Zachary Pelton. Nine Great Grandchildren: Briana, Nikole, Tyler, Cameron, Chaya, Cadyen, Coltynn, Marcus and Nathan.
She gave of herself so we could have more. She leaves behind a kindness of heart that is within each of us now.
Per her request there will be a private memorial service. Maxine will be buried next to her son Mark in the Harrington cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society. Family assisted by PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, Petaluma.
