May was born on May 2, 1928. She passed peacefully in her sleep in her home of 70 years on January 18, 2022. May Bordessa started life as a 3 ½ lb home birth premature baby. She was wrapped in a blanket, laid in a shoebox, she was placed in a wood stove oven for warmth. She began her life on a dairy farm in Marshall, CA with no running water and no electricity. Hard work and daily chores molded her into the woman she would become.
She was the youngest of three children, having 2 older brothers. As a young girl she attended the one room Marshall School. She then went to Tomales High School. During high school she met Dick Velloza and they became sweethearts. Upon Dick’s return from WW11 They were married and settled in Pt Reyes Station. She became a housewife and raised her 2 boys, Mike and Bob. When her youngest child graduated high school she landed a job driving the Tomales School bus, which a largest stick shift bus, up and down Hwy 1, all the while keeping the kids in line. She was then offered a job at the high school library during school hours. She loved these jobs and made many new friends and developed a love of reading. Later she worked for a small manufacturing business in Pt Reyes Station, and for Ann Dick Jewelry.
May enjoyed accordion music and all things Italian; gardening, especially roses; church on Sunday at Sacred Heart, watching the SF Giants; and most of all spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ambrogio & Carrie Bordessa, brothers Charlie and Bruno, her beloved husband Dick, and grandson Jake. She is survived by her sons Mike (Lynn), Bob (Susy), grandchildren Spencer and Mikaela, nephews Gary (Sandy) & David (Kelly) Bordessa.
She was “the salt of the earth” and will be sorely missed!
