Melvin Leroy Belsardi

Melvin Leroy Belsardi passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on February 2, 2023 in Petaluma, CA. He was 81 years old.

Born September 8, 1941 in Petaluma, Melvin was a member of the Petaluma High School class of 1959. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1966 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, achieving the rank of SP-4, and receiving the Good Conduct Medal.

Prior to leaving for basic training, he met the love of his life, Winnie Armstrong. They kept in touch by writing letters throughout Melvin’s military service, and upon his discharge, the two were married on March 19, 1966, in Reno, Nevada. They made their home in Petaluma and lived happily until Winnie passed in August, 1999.

Melvin spent 40 years working as a counterman and truck driver for various plumbing supply companies, including Forman’s Plumbing, and Collins-Marlow Plumbing in San Rafael, before moving closer to home to help start up Petaluma Plumbing Supply, which later became Super Plumbing Supply and Ferguson Enterprises. He retired in December of 2006.

Melvin enjoyed netting surf fish and picking abalone on the Sonoma Coast, trout fishing, and taking summer vacation trips to Disneyland, Great America, Oregon, Reno, and Lake Tahoe with his family. After retiring, he loved taking the bus to River Rock Casino, or spending a day at the Graton Casino in Rohnert Park. He also spent time doing yardwork and various projects around the house that he proudly lived in for 57 years.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sadie, and his sister, Dorothy (Nunes). He is survived by his children, Janeen and Brian, both of Petaluma, and nephew Ernie Nunes.

Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. Services will be held at the Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory, Magnolia Avenue and Keokuk Street, Petaluma, Calif., 94952. Visitation will be held on the same day, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The family prefers memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of Petaluma, 416 Payran St., Petaluma, Calif., 94952.
