Mervyn passed away peacefully in his home in Marshall, California on Tuesday, December 19th. He was born in Petaluma, California to Albert and Virginia Zimmerman. He was the youngest of four boys, Stuart, Evan and Donald who have all passed on. The family moved to Marshall on Tomales Bay when he was 12 years old. He attended Tomales Grammar school and graduated from Tomales High School in 1947. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary McCullough, and joined his father in the dairy business where he raised his family and lived for the rest of his life. In 1980, his son, Bill, and his family moved to the home ranch and joined his parents in the dairy business.
Mervyn, a lifelong dairyman, was an avid hunter who enjoyed hunting with his family and friends. He was also a member of the Trail Blazers, Tomales Druids, Elks Club, DHIA and the Marin County Farm Bureau.
Mervyn was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda, and is survived by his wife of 75 years, Mary, sons Terry and Bill (Sharon), grandchildren Paul (Hilary), Stacey (Rob), Jenny (Mark), Trisha (Mike), Audra, Trevor (Sierra) and Jered (Kendall), as well as 17 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank their caregiver, Tui, for her amazing care and kindness, she has become a part of our family and we couldn't do it without her.
A celebration of life in Mervyn's honor will be held at a later date. Donations in Mervyn's honor may be made to Hospice of Petaluma or Tomales History Center.
