Michael John Campbell, deceased, was born on April 20 1944 to John “Jack” Campbell and the former Ruth Dickie. He was born in Eureka, CA where his father was stationed at the end of the war. When his father was decommissioned from the Navy, the family settled in Fort Bragg, CA. Michael attended Fort Bragg schools from kindergarten to high school, graduating in 1963. He next studied at San Francisco City Collage before relocating to Sonoma County, the home county of both parents and numerous relations.
Michael served in the army in Vietnam, employing his mechanical skills in the service and support of the army’s helicopter missions. Following the completion of his army service, Michael returned to Sonoma County briefly before signing up to return to service in Vietnam in a civilian capacity, performing the same work he had done previously. While in Vietnam on his civilian engagement, Michael met and married his first wife, Thuy Campbell. Putting down roots in Saigon, they started a family, having a son, Jeffery Campbell. Upon the fall of Saigon in 1975, the family fled with just the clothes upon their backs.
Michael’s parents helped the young family settle in Fort Bragg. Michael found employment in nearby Parlin Fork CA Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations. The work was agreeable and gave direction to a new career for Michael. The family relocated to Petaluma and Michael completed his studies in criminology at Sonoma State University. He was subsequently hired by San Quentin State Prison and rose to the position of night warden.
Following his employment at San Quentin, Michael worked as a U.S. Marshall and lastly, as a parole agent in San Francisco. While working in San Francisco, Michael met and married Laurie Munoz. A daughter, Michaela, was born shortly after and the family then settled in Pacifica, CA.
Michael experienced a number of serious health issues and died on the 29th of October following heart failure. He is survived by Thuy Campbell and son Jeffery Campbell both of Petaluma, and by Laurie Munoz Campbell and daughter Michaela both of Pacifica. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Campbell and her husband Peter Caton. Michael leaves two nieces, Kelly and Kasey and a grand niece, Emily, all of Sacramento and his nephew, John of Atlanta, Georgia. And, his brother, Daniel Campbell-Benson of Monterey and brother-in-law, Jerry Fielder. He also leaves many cousins, friends, and colleagues.
