Michael Wayne Pinckney, lovingly known as Mike, passed away on January 18, 2025, in Petaluma, California, at the age of 62. Born on December 7, 1962, at Marin General Hospital in San Rafael, California, Mike spent most of his life in Petaluma and the greater Sonoma County area, where he lived a life full of grit, hard work, family, and countless laughs.
Mike was the beloved son of Gordon Wayne Pinckney and the late Jane Marie Pinckney. He is survived by his father, Gordon, and his sisters Binky, Viola, Betty, and Teresa, who fondly remember his vibrant personality and unwavering commitment to family. He was preceded in death by his sister Gale, whose memory remained close to his heart. Mike is also survived by his cherished daughter Kristine and his granddaughters Savannah and Jane, who brought immense joy to his life.
Mike was a jack-of-all-trades, spending his life in various trade crafts, including plumbing, construction, landscaping, and security, to name a few. He even owned a VHS rental store in Sonoma, showcasing his love of movies and his entrepreneurial spirit. Known for his relentless work ethic and “can-do” attitude, Mike approached life with determination and independence, never backing down from a challenge. He was always the first to lend a hand, often helping others at a moment’s notice—whether they expected it or not.
Outside of work, Mike loved woodworking, gardening, playing cards, and being sociable. He had a knack for joking around and playfully pushing people’s buttons, often leaving those around him laughing despite themselves. His love for Halloween and the Fourth of July was unmatched. Whether it was carving intricate pumpkins or setting off fireworks, Mike brought energy, creativity, and excitement to every celebration, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who joined in.
Mike also had a profound artistic side, often expressing himself through intricate letters adorned with beautiful artwork that he sent to those he cared about. These personal creations, full of emotion and creativity, touched the hearts of all who received them, serving as a testament to his unique way of staying connected with loved ones.
In his later years, Mike was deeply involved in Alcoholics Anonymous, serving as a leader and organizer, and more recently, he found a sense of community within a local church group. These connections brought him fulfillment and a place to share his unique perspective and experiences.
Mike will be remembered as a fiercely independent, hardworking, and fun-loving man who touched the lives of those around him. He lived life on his own terms, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Those who truly knew him will remember the strength, determination, and complexity that made him one of a kind.
Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Mike’s life on March 8, 2025, from 1 to 3 PM at Adobe Christian Church 2875 Adobe Rd., Petaluma. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, people consider donating to the Mary Isaac Center or an animal shelter of their choice in Mike’s honor. The family also appreciates the support and love from those who knew Mike.
