Michael Hoopes Smith - On June 12, 2012 Michael Hoopes Smith (Mickey) passed away peacefully at home in Kenwood, California at the age of 71 after a courageous battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Mickey was born on January 3, 1941 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Pauline Hoopes Smith and Bruce Donald Smith Jr. He was raised in Colorado Springs and later attended prep school at The Gunnery in Washington, Connecticut. He returned to Colorado to earn a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder; he then earned a Masters in Business Administration from the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University in New York. From there Mickey moved to Chicago and became a banker at Northern Trust Bank where his family had deep roots. He later moved to Sonoma County and was a resident here for 40 years, where he continued in investment management.
He is also survived by his step-children, Lisa Nowell of Sonoma, CA, Lauren Nowell of Novato, CA, and Peter (Denise) Nowell of San Anselmo, CA and his loving grandchildren Tylor Mae Nowell, Parker and Ashley Nowell.
He is the cherished brother of Bruce Donald (Anndel Kinnenmonth) Smith III of Santa Fe, NM and Suzanne Smith (John) Williams of Paradise Valley, AZ. Mickey was well loved by friends and family and will be very much missed by sisters-in-law Anne (Brian) O"Dea of Alamo, Elizabeth (Thomas) Kuhn of Mill Valley, and Catherine (Morey) Serpa of Santa Rosa, and their families.
Mickey was predeceased by his wife Susan Tylor Smith, his brother David Paul Smith, and his parents.
