Nancy Alice Cameron

November 22, 1929 — November 17, 2017

Lifelong resident of Petaluma, CA. Passed away in the early morning hours on November 17, 2017, and blessed with a great-granddaughter born in the late night hours the same day.  Age 87. Born November 22, 1929 to Iven and Asta Iversen. Loving wife of the late Jack Cameron, her husband of 66 years, who preceded her in death by two and a half years. Cherished mother of Roger Cameron, Joan (Spike) O’Keeffe and Gayle (Mike) Baker. Proud grandmother of Kelly Bassett (Rick), Megan Vu (Mike), Jason Cameron (Yves), Luke Baker (Kial) and Becky Brown (Steve).  Doting great-grandmother of Jack and Hailey Bassett, Cameron Vu, Leif and Kean Cameron, and Pierce Jolie Baker. Survived by her loving sister, Lillie Miller. Aunt to many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Nancy was a graduate of Petaluma High School in 1947 and it was there that she met the love of her life, Jack Cameron. They were married in 1948.

Nancy grew up on her parents’ chicken ranch on Skillman Lane and learned as a child to work hard. Upon graduation from high school she was employed by Petaluma Poultry Producers and later in life as a bookkeeper for Redwood Egg Farms. The in-between years were filled with Blue Birds, Camp Fire Girls, Cub Scouts, Cinnabar PTA, volunteer activities and loving her children and later, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked with her husband Jack at King’s Corner Store in the 1960’s and it was then that she started baking cookies as “thank you” gifts for customers. This love of baking and cookie gifting continued for over 50 years and Nancy’s cookies were enjoyed by many.

Nancy loved baking, sewing and crafts and was active in the Elim Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Danish Sisterhood Lodge #126 and the Golden Starlet Drill Team and performed before the King and Queen of Denmark with her “sisters” in October, 1960. Nancy volunteered at Sack’s Thrift Avenue for many years.

Nancy loved reading, genealogy and creating family history stories that were shared with all her extended families: the Camerons, the Iversens, the Christiansens, and the Iver Joergensens. She also researched and wrote historical accounts of the Elim Lutheran Church, the Danish Sisterhood Lodge #126 and Cinnabar School. She quietly wrote an account of her own life, called “My Story, the Farmer’s Daughter” which was found after her husband died.

Nancy and Jack enjoyed motor home trips with family and friends throughout the United States and both were blessed with lifelong friends with whom they have been reunited in heaven: Walt Miller, Dorothy and Bob MacKinnon, Mary and Willie Lafranchi, Lil and Richard Jones. Her sister Lillie and Marilyn and Bob Larsen are the remaining angels on earth of the estimable “poker club”.

Nancy was loved by many and will be missed. Please join her family and friends at a memorial service on Saturday, December 9 at 2:00 pm at the Elim Lutheran Church. A reception will follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Petaluma or the Elim Lutheran Church.
