OWEN CLINE FREDERICKS, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 63 years Angelina Musso Fredericks, his children Owen John Fredericks (Karen), Susan Degive (Michel), and John Fredericks (Robyn). Owen is also survived by his grandchildren Jesse Frank, Owen Michael Fredericks, Andrea Robertson (Casey), Erin Starke (Johannes), Nicole Lestanguet (Joe), Sandra Etherington (Eric), and Briana Moylan (Jacob), and his great grandchildren (Halle, Emma, Ryker, Monica, Juliet, and Ripley), his brother Maurice Fredericks (Betty), sister-in-law Mary Fredericks (deceased brother Martin), and many nieces and nephews. Owen, born Oct 31, 1923, was a third-generation Petaluman. His grandparents, Morris and Theodora Fredericks immigrated from the Isle of Fohr, Germany, and settled in Petaluma in 1886. Owen worked alongside architect/contractor Morris and his father Martin Fredericks (mother Mary Cline) in the family business that constructed the Women's Club, the Campfire Hut, 707 D Street, and numerous other prominent Petaluma residences. Owen as a boy worked at Mattei Brothers, and graduated from St. Vincent High School in 1941. He studied Chemistry at Santa Clara University, but left early to attend U.S. Navy flight school. Owen served proudly as a Marine Corps 2nd Lieutenant in World War II and as Captain in the Korean War flying 147 combat missions in an F4U Corsair. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 4 stars, the Korean Service Medal with 3 stars, the World War II Victory Medal, and three Presidential Unit Citations. After his service, Owen worked for his Uncle Tom Cline at Cline's Furniture Store, and later purchased full ownership. He was President of the Petaluma Area Chamber of Commerce, Exalted Ruler of Elks Club #901, 1st vice-president of the Lions Club, and long-time member of Petaluma Golf and Country Club. In 1974, Owen, along with friends Bill Appleton and Bill Drew, purchased the Washoe House and enjoyed its success and lively atmosphere until his retirement in 1987. Owen's biggest joys were spent with family at Company C duck club down the Petaluma River and at his mountain cabin in Sierra City. A rosary will be said Friday, September 4th at 7:00 p.m. at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, September 5th at 11:30 a.m. at the Elks Club in Petaluma.
