P. Douglas Richardson

October 2, 1953 — April 14, 2015

DOUG RICHARDSON (P. Douglas Richardson) passed gracefully and quietly at his home in Petaluma on April 14, 2015. A shining light for all who knew him, Doug leaves behind a legacy of caring, kindness, service, and discipleship. He is survived by his wife, Debi Richardson, son, Douglas Carl Richardson, and daughters, Darci and Dianna Richardson. His family gathered quickly after the news of his death including his mother, Colleen Hamilton, his sister and brother in law, Linda and Asghar Badii, and his daughter in law, Aimee Richardson. Doug was born in Oceanside, California and moved often as a member of a military family. He graduated from UCLA and served overseas in the army for four years. He went to work for IBM where he met his wife of 34 years. The couple moved frequently with IBM, living in Las Vegas, LA, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania, before returning to San Jose to work for Amdahl corporation. He retired from Amdahl due to his increasing struggle with MS in 2000. The family gratefully acknowledges the financial and personal support offered by the fine men and women of Amdahl. After his retirement, Doug served on the board of the MS Society for many years. He also visited a convalescent center each week to provide fellowship and conversation for the residents there until the drive became too difficult for him. Doug enjoyed his family, attending sporting events and concerts and helping to supervise countless high school events with his wife at Pioneer and Petaluma High School. Doug loved living in Petaluma. His friends and relationships were so important to him, including the people at First Presbyterian Church of Petaluma, New Life, Sunrise Rotary, and Petaluma High School. We also want to acknowledge the precious friendship of Chris Escamilla and Deb Torres, Boyd Davis, and the Barton Smith family. Doug was often seen around town with his companion dog, Apollo. Thanks to the many who got him unstuck or helped him as he made his way around town. It is comforting to know that Doug loved the Lord and the Lord loved him. He is safe and free. Praise be to God. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 21 at First Presbyterian Church of Petaluma at 6:00 PM. Dinner will be served afterwards in the fellowship hall. Attendees are asked to wear a bit of Dodger Blue to the service. If you cannot (we understand), a Hawaiian shirt will help to celebrate Doug's life. In lieu of flowers, donations to First Presbyterian Church of Petaluma (939 B Street, Petaluma, CA 94952) in Doug's honor will be gratefully accepted. A tribute page has been established at http://memorial.yourtribute.com/Doug-Richardson. Arrangements are being handled by Parent-Sorensen Mortuary and Crematory of Petaluma.
