Patrick Lawrence Hillary

Patrick Lawrence Hillary - Passed away on November 5, 2007 in Santa Rosa. Devoted husband of the late Esther Hillary. Cherished father of Patricia Jeanne Henzel. Adored grandfather of Holly Baird and Kevin Henzel. Beloved great-grandfather of Joshua and Christopher Baird. Loving brother of the late Ann Sullivan. Survived by 6 nieces and nephews. Age: 91 years. Patrick was born, reared and educated in Butte, MT. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1938 and served during WWII as a Chief Commissary Steward. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed, however, he was out on sea patrol on the USS Minneapolis, narrowly missing the attack. Patrick fought in every battle in the Pacific Theater, but was never injured, even being transferred from the USS Minneapolis just before it was attacked. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he went to watch making school. It became a favorite hobby of his and he repaired watches as side work. Patrick married Esther, the love of his life, and together they enjoyed 58 years of marriage. He worked as a cook for Talmadge State Hospital. Later, he was promoted to supervising cook when he went to work for Sonoma State Hospital until his retirement in 1980. Patrick was a former member of the West Santa Rosa Baptist Church and later attended Calvary Assembly of God. Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Service, Monday, November 12, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. at the LAFFERTY & SMITH COLONIAL CHAPEL, 4321 Sonoma Hwy., Santa Rosa, CA 539-2921. Interment: Santa Rosa Memorial Park.
