Patrick Joseph Leland 1969-2024
Pat Leland died at his home in Petaluma on Sept. 15, 2024. He passed in the loving embrace of his wife of 23 years, Corinne, after a valiant 34-month battle against glioblastoma. He was 55.
Pat was the youngest son of John and Merry Herbert Leland. They preceded him in death, as did his oldest brother, John, Jr. Pat is survived by Corinne and their son, Jake. Also mourning his loss are his brother, Michael (Ellen) Leland of Perry Park, CO, and their children Merry, Michael Jr. and his namesake nephew, Patrick, all of Colorado.
Joining them in grief are Corinne’s family. Annie Vion of France, Sylvie (Jean-Luc) Clerc of Madagascar and Marie-Line and Boonty Golding Vion of Tenerife will miss Pat deeply.
Pat was well-loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors. He grew up in San Mateo and attended Serra High School. He earned a degree in Sociology at San Diego State University.
A strong entrepreneurial spirit motivated Pat. He learned the insurance business from his father before becoming an independent agent.
Pat was known for his big heart and generous personality. He was passionate about the health of both mind and body. He studied and taught yoga for many years, and more recently the Buteyko Breathing Method. He also practiced Qigong under Master Yuan Tze and at the local community center.
Nature inspired Pat. He loved spending time hiking with friends and family, especially at Mt. Tamalpais and Point Reyes National Seashore. He ignited Jake’s passion for fishing. Pat treasured every moment with Corinne and Jake and their dog, Sugar. The foursome was well known walkers in their “PAtaluma” neighborhood.
The pleasure of a good meal and a glass of wine always made Pat smile. He loved to laugh, but loved to make others laugh even more. Corinne said he could be counted on to retrieve items from the highest kitchen shelves, no ladder needed!
An avid Bay Area Sports fan, he shared his love of the Giants, Warriors and 49ers with family and friends, even explaining American football to his French wife. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory can be made to UCSF for research on Glioblastoma
