Patt Dombroski - Patt Dombroski passed away in San Rafael on November 9, 2008, at the age of 61. Loving mother of Joshua Faure-Brac of Los Angeles and Gabriel Faure-Brac and his wife Megan of New York. Devoted daughter of Henry Dombroski and his wife JoAnn of San Carlos and the late Dorothy Dombroski. Dear sister of Jim Dombroski and his wife Shelley of Petaluma, Michelle Conway and her husband Gareth of La Jolla, and Ronald Shaffer of Costa Rica. Aunt of Marisa Dombroski, Jacob Dombroski, and Alex, Christopher, Gwendolyn and Andrew Conway. Survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
As a single working mother in the 1970â??s, Patt devoted her time to raising her two boys. After short stints in Los Angeles as an R&B singer and a television production assistant, Patt moved her family to Petaluma, CA.
It was there that Patt discovered her true passion in life: teaching high school and middle school theater. In 1986, she became the Head Drama Coach and Theater Director at Petaluma High School. Over the following 12 years, she directed three play productions per year and touched the lives of countless students with her fierce commitment to their artistic and emotional development. Relentless in her insistence that the Theater is an excellent place to promote personal growth and positive values, she fought for increased funding of Theater Arts programs in the Petaluma School District and inspired scores of students to follow their dreams.
Diagnosed with Alzheimerâ??s Disease in 2001, Patt vowed not to go quietly into the night. She was an annual walker in the Alzheimerâ??s Associationâ??s Wine Country Memory Walk and even volunteered for clinical trials so that the disease could be better understood. She not only brought a face to the disease, but also gave it an all-important voice by openly talking about the presence of the disease in her life.
The lasting power of Patt Dombroskiâ??s life is in the love she gave to others.
A Celebration of Pattâ??s Life will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2008, at 11:00 am at The Mystic Theater, 23 Petaluma Boulevard No., Petaluma. Colorful attire requested. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimerâ??s Association, 1211 N. Dutton Ave., Suite A, Santa Rosa, CA 95401, or to the Petaluma High School Drama Department, 201 Fair St., Petaluma, CA 94952.
Patt was a 1964 graduate of El Camino High School in South San Francisco, CA. She attended Foothill College from 1964-66 and completed a Special Theater Program at San Francisco State University. In 1966, she collaborated with Lawrence Ferlinghetti, writing and producing original plays. Throughout the 1960â??s, Patt produced, directed and acted in many touring and site-specific productions, including avant-garde street theater and be-ins with Ken Keseyâ??s Merry Pranksters.
