Philip Jesus Guerrero

February 9, 1932 — November 3, 2016

Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Philosopher, Friend. “Life is a game and an illusion. “ Phil was born in San Francisco. Son of Efram Guerrero and Julia Amezcua. Big brother to Emy Douda and Adriana Peyrucain. Phil graduated from St. Ignatius High School where he enjoyed competitive swimming, diving and surfing. He fell in love with Barbara Sattley, married and had two beautiful daughters Nancy and Leslie. In 1970 Phil and Barb moved to Petaluma where they called home to raise their girls. They grew up enjoying lake Berryessa in the summers where Phil loved to water ski and mastered quite the rooster tail, dock start and shore landing as to not get his hair wet! The winters were spent in Lake Tahoe where he perfected his downhill snow skiing. Barbara taught dance at Arthur Murray, and dancing was one of their favorite pastimes. On his 60th birthday his family sent him skydiving!!! We all have watched that video dozens of times! Phil loved anything that had to do with aviation and even piloted sea planes in the navy. Phil was introduced to the handball world: “life is a game and Handball is Serious,” and enjoyed the sport for over 50 years. It became a passion of his that would carry him through his lifetime. You could find him at the club 7 days a week. His handball friends became his brothers! Phil took his last breath surrounded with love, peacefully with his children Leslie, Nancy, Rose and Vicki and sister Adri by his side. He leaves behind, broken hearted grandchildren Madison Kempkes and Mason and Quinn Brown, daughters Leslie Kempkes, Nancy and Rose Vella, sisters Emy Douda & Adri Peyrucain, brother in-law Marvin Douda, countless nieces and nephews, and an abundance of friends. A celebration of life for Phil will be November 15, 2016 at 11:00 am at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. A luncheon will immediately follow.
