A life well lived was taken from us on March 19, 2018. Ray
passed away peacefully after a three-year long battle with
vascular dementia. In his 89 years on this earth Ray
accomplished more than most.
Beloved son of the late Joe and Nella Lazzini, Ray is survived by
his loving wife of 65 years, Katherine “Kathy” Lazzini, who he
married at St. Rose Church. They were blessed with four
children, Kathy Rae (Steve) Hansen, Kenneth (Sharlene) Lazzini,
Steven (Leslie) Lazzini, and Mark Lazzini (Kay Zastrow). Ray is
also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great
grandchildren, loving sister in law, Diane Tomczak, his
“adopted” son Jerry (Tyishia) Gage and numerous nieces,
nephews, cousins and many friends. Preceded in death by
siblings, Joe Lazzini, Gloria Bedolla and Delores Bertino.
Ray was born in Santa Rosa, where he lived his entire life and
attended Santa Rosa High School, Class of 1948. Ray served his
country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the U.S.S.
Hornet and the U.S.S. Philippine Sea aircraft carriers. Ray
returned to Santa Rosa and established Ray’s Food Center with
his brother, Joe. After building a successful business Raymond
retired after 50 years. After retiring Ray helped his son Mark at
Mark’s Christmas Tree Lot.
During his life, Ray was involved in the community, cooking his
famous polenta stew for Resurrection Parish, SRHS Foundation,
Sons & Daughters of Italy, Italian-American Club, Ursuline
Alumnae, the Druids and the Italian Cultural Club. Ray served
on the St. Vincent DePaul Society for 40 years. Ray selflessly
served his community. Ray was an avid gardener, loved
bowling, playing cards and golfing with his friends, known as the
"International Eight".
Ray was constantly working towards making the world a better
place for all. Ray was beloved by all who knew him and leaves a
legacy of strength, love, family, and hard work.
Ray will be missed every day.
Our heartful gratitude and thanks go to the doctors, nurses and
Hospice at Memorial Hospital 2nd and 3rd Floor East.
