Remo Galeazzi, aged 93, died peacefully at his home in Petaluma, CA on May 28 after an extended illness.
Remo was born in San Francisco on December 28, 1923 to Archimede and Battestina Galeazzi and spent his childhood in Kentfield, graduating from Tamalpais High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge.
In 1952, Remo married his sweetheart Anne Babbini; they were married for 59 years, until her death in 2011. They had one daughter, Rae Anne (Ciufi) in December 1956.
Remo was accomplished in many areas. He was a devoted fly fisherman who not only tied his own flies but also crafted his own fishing rods. He loved opera and art, and was a gifted painter. He was a licensed airplane and glider pilot, and won numerous awards for his meticulous restorations of antique aircraft. His most treasured award was the prestigious Lindbergh trophy, which he won in 1987 for his homebuilt Marquardt MA-5 Charger. He wrote many articles for Sport Aviation Magazine and other aviation publications, and in 1995 he received a Major Achievement Award from the Experimental Aircraft Association for his contributions to Sport Aviation.
He is survived by his daughter Rae Anne (Ciufi) Galeazzi of Rohnert Park, niece Nancy Ward, and nephews Ronald Babbini and Richard Jones. He also leaves behind many devoted friends whose visits and kindnesses in his last years were deeply appreciated. We wish to thank the many loving caregivers who have assisted the family in recent years, including Denise Steeves, Shawn Hasik, and Julie Barker, and the wonderful staff of Hospice of Petaluma.
