Reverend Monsignor Serado

Reverend Monsignor William Serado - Msgr. William Serado was born in Nesquehoning, PA, on February 26, 1914 and was baptized on the same day he was born, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Nesquehoning, PA, passed away on January 7, 2008 in San Rafael, CA. For Monsignor Serado the priesthood was his whole life and he was single minded in his dedication to priestly life and service. For this he was well respected by both clergy and laity. He appreciated the care and attention of friends and caregivers in the last few months. May God reward him for his steadfastness and grant him eternal rest. Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Friday, January 11, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Sebastianâ??s Church, 7983 Covert Ln., Sebastopol, CA. The Vigil Service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at 7:30 P.M. at St. Sebastianâ??s Church. Interment immediately following the Funeral Mass at Calvary Cemetery, Santa Rosa, CA. Directors: PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, Petaluma. He received his elementary education at a public school for six years and then at Sacred Heart parochial school in Nesquehoning, PA, for two years. He attended Maryknoll Preparatory High School and then college in Clarks Summit, PA. He entered the seminary with the Maryknoll Fathers in Ossining, NY in 1934 but after two years he transferred to the diocesan seminary of Our Lady of the Angels in Niagara Falls, NY. It was at this seminary that he was encouraged to think about priestly ministry in the West and on December 21, 1940, he was ordained a priest at St. Josephâ??s Cathedral, Buffalo, NY, for ministry in the Diocese of Sacramento. In the Diocese of Sacramento he served as associate pastor at Immaculate Conception parish and St. Rose parish, both in Sacramento. From 1949 to 1958 he was the diocesan director of youth (C.Y.O.) and he also functioned in the matrimonial tribunal as a judge and notary and also during this time period was the assistant director of St. Patrickâ??s Home in Sacramento.
