Richard M. Avilla

Passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at home surrounded by family in Petaluma, CA, beloved husband for 60 years of Eleanor Corda Avilla. Adored father of Therese Avilla of Petaluma. Cherished grandfather of Julie Schulz and Melissa Schulz both of Petaluma. Dear brother of Betty Riboli of Petaluma and the late Ed Avilla and Lorraine Bucholtz. Son of the late Marceline and Mary Avilla. Loving brother-in-law of Esther Moreda and Minnie Corda both of Petaluma. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A native of Napa, CA, Rich was reared and educated in Petaluma. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He enjoyed golf, RV'ing, dirt bike riding, water skiing, the Dallas Cowboys, playing cards, smoking his pipe, drinking his whiskey & soda, but most of all he enjoyed his granddaughters and his many family and friends. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Penngrove Social Firemen, Elks Lodge #901 of Petaluma, Nicasio Parlor #183 NSGW, Petalma Moose Lodge #475, "Golden Roosters RV Club and SIRS #100. Visitation will be held, Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. The Vigil Service, Sunday at 4:30 pm at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 35 Liberty St., Petaluma. Family and friends are also invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Private interment, Calvary Cemetery, Petaluma. The family extend special thanks to Rich's caregiver, Isaac Manulevu, who was by his side until the end and to his daughter, Therese, granddaughters, Julie and Melissa and dear friend Debbie Moreda for their special care. The family prefer memorials be made to Hospice of Petaluma or to the Penngrove Social Firemen.
