Richard E. Calkin

On May 11, 2025 Elbert Richard Calkin “Rich” passed away in his family home, located in Petaluma California. He was surrounded by his loving wife Adele and two sons Richie and Ryan Calkin.  Son of Richard (Dick) and Mary Calkin.  Rich was raised in San Francisco's Sunset District and attended Holy Name grammar school, followed by Washington High school.

Rich served his country in Vietnam, followed by a career as a San Francisco Firefighter where he spent 27 years serving his community.  He was a life long handball play and member of both the South End Rowing Club in San Francisco and Petaluma Valley Athletic Club.  Rich was also a member of Petaluma Elks Lodge 901.  Rich's life was full of family, friends, travel and handball.  He will always be remembered for his quick wit, wicked serve, and great handlebar mustache.  He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers Tom and Bob Kennedy, sister Kathy Calkin and niece Jeanie Barry.  He was survived by his wife Adele there two children Richie and Ryan, Ryan’s wife Stacy and two grandchildren Tanner and Jesse, as well as his sister Margie Barry (George), brother Don Calkin (Valerie) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Saint James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Parkway Petaluma, Ca. Saturday May 17th at 11:00am
