Richard Ambrose Camozzi

A third-generation dairyman passed away March 21, 2017 after declining health. RICHARD AMBROSE CAMOZZI was born March 15, 1925 in Petaluma to Andrew and Edith (D’Ambrogi) Camozzi, a Swiss Italian family.

He was the eldest of four brothers to Eugene, Robert, and the late Andrew Camozzi, Jr.  Richard was married for 60 years to his late wife Lorraine (Mazzucchi) Camozzi.  He leaves behind three children; Rich Camozzi (Verna), LeRoy Camozzi, and Diana Camozzi-Cheda, all of Petaluma; four grandchildren, Angie Shelton, Gail Feltz, and Andy and Angelina Cheda; and five great-grandchildren.

Richard’s 92 years began on his small Petaluma family farm on Corona Road.  He attended Waugh School and continued on to Petaluma schools until he was 15 years old.  When his parents bought the Ranch on Stony Point Road in 1940, Richard quit school to work.  He worked long hours milking cows until he was 67 years old when they sold the dairy cows and transitioned to beef cattle.

He still was able to find time to travel to Point Arena for abalone picking and Point Reyes for clam digging.  In his later years, he looked forward to his weekly trip to the coast for oysters.  Soon after he was married, he learned the art of Italian Sausage making and continued his passion for over 50 years.

He also enjoyed planting a large vegetable garden with which he was generous and shared with others.  Richard enjoyed going to the local fairs to watch his grandchildren show their animals.  He instilled his work ethic into his children and grandchildren.

He was also a member of the Sonoma Marin Italian Club, Native Sons of the Golden West, and the Elks Lodge.  He was also an active parishioner at St. James Catholic Church until his recent decline in health.

Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Pkwy., Petaluma.  A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma.  Those who prefer may make donations to the St. James Catholic Church or charity of their choice.  Entombment: Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Petaluma.
