Richard Allen "Dick" Borders

On October 17, 2014, RICHARD ALLEN "DICK" BORDERS passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Saramay, 3 children Bruce (Jolene), Jeff, Cara (Keith), six grandchildren Tamara (Kevin), Krista (Steven), Kelsey, Erik, Perry, Carlie, and two great-grandsons Harper and Garrison. He is also survived by his brother, David Borders (Bobbie), and several nieces and nephews. He was born in Cleveland, OH to Damon and Louise Borders who were descendants from early pioneers in the Indianapolis, IN area. Dick graduated from John Marshall High School and competed in track, running hurdles. He later received a degree in engineering from Ohio State University where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa and Alpha Omega. Dick loved animals and was an avid hunter, starting a Northern Ohio Chapter of the Weimaraner Club. He was drawn to the outdoors and was an early adopter of activities such as recreational SCUBA diving and backpacking. As his children grew, he was an active participant in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Later, he joined his daughter, granddaughter and wife in starting a horse rescue. He and his wife moved from Ohio to the Bay Area in 1961, where they later founded a local business. Using his hobby of woodworking and architecture, he designed and built their home with the help of his wife and children. As a charter member of San Antonio Volunteer Fire Department, he was heavily involved in the development of the fire department. He will be sorely missed. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11:00 am at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. Private Inurnment. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to San Antonio Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of your choice.
