Robert Bruce Amend 1944-2022

Robert Bruce “Bob” Amend passed away on December 16th surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born July 15th to Ivan and Doris Amend (Deemer) in Portland, Oregon. Shortly after Bob was born, his family moved to San Mateo where he attended Hillsdale High School. Bob met his loving wife Kathy at a dance social in Guerneville 60 years ago. They married in 1966. In 1965 he enlisted in the air force stationed in Japan where his oldest of three daughters was born. After his service, the young family moved back to the States. Together, they moved to Lancaster, California where two more daughters were born. Bob landed a job with Northrup Grumman at Edwards Airforce Base as a test mechanic and worked there for 30 years. He continued to work at the Base for 30 years. After retirement, he moved to Sonoma County in 2002 to be closer to his daughters. In retirement, Bob found a love of tennis and could often be found on the tennis courts at Rohnert Park practicing his deadly drop shot. As the family grew he was involved in all parts of his grandchildren's lives. He had a knack for getting people to talk and could sit for hours telling stories.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Kathy of 57 years, his children Jennifer (JJ), Christina (John), and Patricia (Jason), his grandchildren Hannah, Sarah, Justin, Kamryn, Lucas, and Evan, his brothers Rick and Bill as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother John.

Bob lived a full life filled with family by his side. While devastated by his death, Bob’s family is comforted by memories of this warm, thoughtful man. They hold a lifetime of laughter, advice, and stories. A celebration of his life will be held on his birthday, July 15, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a donation to Food for Thought or the charity of your choice in his memory.
