Robert Garrison, aged 95, was born in Wenatchee, WA on May 18, 1923 and died Nov. 13, 2018 in Sparks, NV. His parents were William and Joy Garrison.
Bob graduated from Wenatchee High School and enlisted in the Navy as World War II broke out a year later. Bob served with distinction with three Campaign Medals (Normandy, Philippines & Okinawa) and the Bronze Star. Robert was a signalman on board the USS Henrico.
In his later years, he loved to talk to student groups about his experiences in the war. His favorite yearly event was the Veteran's Day parade in Petaluma, CA. He would represent the Navy riding in a yellow Corvette while waving the entire parade route.
After the war, Bob married Phyllis Hansen and the marriage lasted 67 years until Phyllis' death in 2015.
Bob began his career in sheet metal at Alameda Naval Air Station in CA and would continue at Larsen AFB in Moses Lake, WA and finally Hamilton AFB in Novato, CA. He worked over 30 years in aircraft and residential HVAC.
Bob's passion for sports began in High School where he ran track and was on the boxing team. He would coach Little League and Babe Ruth League for over 10 years in both Moses Lake and Petaluma.
In his middle years he found tennis and it became his passion for the remainder of his life. Bob played numerous tournaments in Sonoma County and taught tennis for many years.
Bob was a devout believer in the Lord and served in various roles at both Elim Lutheran and later, Penngrove Community Church.
Bob is survived by son, Greg (Kathy) Garrison of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; son, Grant Garrison of San Francisco; and daughter, Tara Feickert (Gene) of Sparks, Nevada. He leaves behind his beloved sister, Gloria Bartlett of Corte Madera and two nephews. He also leaves six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Monday, December 3, 2018 at 11:30 am at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. Interment: Cypress Hill Memorial Park, Petaluma.
