Robert ‘Bob' Livingston, 85, entered eternal peace on Monday, December 6, 2016 at home surrounded by his children.
Born August 16, 1931 in Lodge Grass, Montana, Bob was the eldest son of the late Robert Carl and Gail Lorraine Livingston of Lame Deer, Montana. Bob married the late Marjorie Ellen Gaskill in 1949 and together they raised eight children and were together more than 50 years.
Bob served as a Seabee in the United States Navy for twenty years and retired at the rank of Senior Chief in 1970 having served three tours in Vietnam. His military commendations include two Purple Hearts, four Bronze Stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Cross of Gallantry Second Award, among others. Of Northern Cheyenne, Sioux and Crow heritage, and having grown up on the Northern Cheyenne reservation, Bob followed his passion for creating justice for his fellow Native Americans by taking a position with the Department of the Interior/Bureau of Indian Affairs assisting tribes across the nation in their implementation of the Indian Self Determination Act after retiring from military service. A lifelong businessman, Bob's final professional chapter was as owner of Livingston Tools during the late 1970s and 1980s with stores in Petaluma, Santa Rosa and Ukiah.
Bob leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his children Sandra Paine (predeceased by her husband Blayne K.), Robert (Julie) Livingston, Kathy (Rodney) Phelps, Rose Marie (Alfred) Sanchez, Michael J. (Esther) Livingston, Timothy M. (Deborah) Livingston, Angela (Kenneth) Moeller, James (Melissa) Livingston and loving sister, Laura Demary of Billings, Montana. He was predeceased by siblings Philip, Bonnie and Ruth Ann. Bob was most proud of his beautiful family which includes 35 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Friends and relatives are invited to celebrate Bob's life at a rosary prayer service Friday, December 9 at 7:00 pm at Parent Sorensen Mortuary in Petaluma, California, 850 Keokuk Street. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm also at Parent Sorensen, then to Calvary Catholic Cemetery where a burial with full military honors will be celebrated.
