Robert Emery Macdonald, Jr.

Bob MacDonald, long time resident of Petaluma passed away on November 20, 2015. He will be sorely missed by his children: Bob MacDonald, Patti Caveney, and Dave MacDonald; as well his grandchildren: Cheryl, Ryan, Aiden, Jocelyn and Lily. He also leaves behind two sisters, Carol and Ruth, and a brother, Richard. In his lifetime he lost his parents, his brother Frederick and his sister JoAnne, as well as his wife Dotty. Bob was born in Massachusetts. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Navy on December 7, 1942, one year to the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. As a signal man in the Navy he served a full tour of duty in the Pacific. Having been stationed in Vallejo, he fell in love with the west coast and remained a resident here for the rest of his life. He graduated with his teaching credential from Western Oregon University in Monmouth Oregon. He taught in San Francisco, eventually landing in Petaluma where he taught for many years. He received his Master Degree from San Francisco State University as well. Among the schools he graced are McNear, Petaluma High School, and Kenilworth. He married Dotty in 1961 and together they raised their family. They were involved in many Masonic organizations, including helping with the local Rainbow and DeMolay. Together they served Morning Star Chapter of OES, and then Gold Ridge Star Chapter in Sebastopol as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron more than once. Bob was also a member of the Masons, Royal Arch, and a Shriner. He will be remembered fondly for his love of making people laugh and telling silly jokes. He was smart and witty and always had a comeback. He was honest and kind and a friend to many, many people. Friends and family are invited to attend the Memorial Service, Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Petaluma United Methodist Church, 410 D St., Petaluma. Private Inurnment.
