Robert Earl Steinweg

December 13, 1927 — March 26, 2016

Passed away in St. Helena, CA, March 26, 2016, beloved husband of the late Alberta Mae "Birdie" Steinweg. Step father of Jim, Tom and Chuck and their families. Predeceased by his siblings, Freddie, Helene, Wilma and Frieda. Survived by his nieces and nephews, Norm, Harold, Dennis and Diane Matzen, Eleanor Ameral, Jim Bostrom and their children; and several cousins from the Behrs family. A native of Petaluma, he was the son of the late Ernst and Wilhelmine (Behrs) Steinweg. He was educated in Petaluma schools and served in the Army from 1946 to 1952, with tours of duty in Germany, Korea and Washington State. He worked in construction for many years in Sonoma and Marin counties. He and "Birdie", whom he married on September 17, 1988, loved traveling and visited many states, sometimes going by train to Pennsylvania to visit son Jim and his family. They loved fishing in Idaho with friends as well. Robert has resided at the Yountville Veterans Home since December 2010 where he was a member of the scooter drill team, "Hills Angels" that performed their routine in the Petaluma Veterans Day Parade for the past several years. There will be a "Gathering of Family and Friends" on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the IOOF Plot at Cypress Hill Memorial Park, 430 Magnolia Ave., Petaluma.
