Roberta Mae Christensen Peek

Roberta (Bertie, Berta Mae) passed away on June 3, 2017, in San Rafael, CA. She passed peacefully at home of natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles Bruce Peek, M.D. She leaves behind two sons: Jim Peek of San Rafael CA, Ken Peek (Cecilia) of Provo UT; two daughters: Cathy Peek Clary and Carol Peek Griffin, both of Petaluma CA; and eleven grandchildren: Ellie, Julia, Alex and Ben Peek; Patrick, Liana, Christopher and Olivia Clary; Marc, Anna and Will Griffin.

Roberta was born in Berkeley, CA on Feb. 29, 1928. She grew up in Flushing, NY and Summit, NJ with her mother Rhea Alberta Huish Christensen, father Carl Joseph Christensen, sister Mary Ellen Christensen Snow and two brothers Carl Huish Christensen and James (Carmel) Huish Christensen.  She received a Bachelor’s degree in Bacteriology from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, and a Master’s degree in Marriage, Family, Children Counseling from University of San Francisco. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, active in genealogy and went on a mission to Eastern Canada.

Roberta and Charles moved to the Terra Linda neighborhood of San Rafael, CA in 1960 and raised their four children there. In addition to being a loving mother, Roberta was very creative and her talents included painting, decorative arts, quilting, sewing, and music.  She was known for her exceptionally beautiful gingerbread houses which were sold at church bazaars, given to school teachers, and caught the eye of a local business who used them in a holiday display. In the 1970s and 80s she taught quilting and teddy bear making classes through the local Adult Education system. Hallmark was so impressed with her custom teddy bear designs that they featured them in a line of greeting cards. A student of piano as a child, she learned to play the harp when she was in her 40s, then became a business woman by starting a harp rental business which assisted many budding musicians in the Bay Area for almost 40 years.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Sat. June 10, 2017 at 4 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 220 N San Pedro Rd., San Rafael, CA.  Family assisted by PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, Petaluma.
