Rose M. Frates

Rose Marie Frates (née Ruckrigl), born March 14, 1931, in Petaluma, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, at the age of 95.

She was the beloved daughter of Henry Ruckrigl, an immigrant from Hungary, and Marie Ruckrigl (née Koehler), an immigrant from Germany. Both entered the United States through Ellis Island. Rose was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Ruckrigl.

Rose cherished her deep roots in Petaluma, living her entire life never far from her childhood home on Pepper Lane. A resilient woman with strong family values, she was known for her kindness, diligence, and unwavering dedication to others. Her strong work ethic began at Stonitsch & Arvold Lumber and Millwork Company, her cousins’ business in Petaluma, where she developed administrative skills and maintained close ties with the Stonitsch family. She later carried those skills into a long and fulfilling career with the County of Sonoma, retiring as Assistant Purchasing Agent—a role she took great pride in. Her retirement years were filled with her passion for traveling.

Rose was married twice and was preceded in death by both husbands. Her first husband, Arthur Paula, sadly passed away early in their marriage. In 1988, she married Vince Frates, and together they enjoyed many happy years until his passing in 1995.

She is survived by numerous members of the Ruckrigl, Paula, and Frates families. She is also survived by her devoted caregiver, Isabel Salvador, who Rose referred to as her “best friend”. Rose’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude and love to Isabel.
