Rose Josephine Goulart

Rose Josephine Goulart - Passed away at home in Sebastopol, Ca., February 5, 2009. Rose was born March 9, 1921 in Ignacio (Novato), CA to the late John and Mary Mattos. She was one of six children. The family moved to Tomales, CA and Rose graduated from Tomales High School in 1939. In 1938, she was crowned Queen of the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society for two days, a memory she cherished. She married the late George Goulart on August 16, 1947 in Tomales. In 1961, she was hired by Wilson School in Petaluma and worked there as a teacherâ??s aide and custodian until her retirement in 1994. She very much enjoyed her work, especially teaching and reading mastery. Her other interests included travel to the Caribbean, Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Canada and many places in the United States. She has attended Sebastopol Christian Church since 1986. Known as an inveterate prankster, she has been known to show up at a gathering with a frosted cardboard cake. She was also well known at the fair for her lifelike chicken impressions. She loved telling stories of her many experiences. She was kind and generous, with an ever-present sense of humor. Her grandchildren were her special delight. She will be greatly missed by friends and family. Rose was preceded in death by brothers, John, Tony and Frank. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Serpa of San Francisco and Angelina Vierra of McMinnville, OR. Mother of Regina Goulart of Sebastopol and George Goulart Jr. of Petaluma. Grandmother of Rachael and Brandon Gilligan and Tina and Crystal Goulart.
