Ruben Louis Sala, beloved father, passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2024, at the age of 82. A dedicated and loving father, Ruben is survived by his sons Craig (Wendy), Brian and David Sala.
Born on July 15, 1941 in Petaluma, California, Ruben was the son of Rubio and Gladys Sala. He loved and adored his mother as she helped mold him into the man he would become. Ruben attended St. Vincent’s Elementary and High School where he excelled on the football field as a halfback in addition to tormenting the nuns. Following graduation, he honorably served in the United States Airforce from 1960 to 1964.
Ruben dedicated 32 years of his career to Pacific Gas & Electric, starting with the “gas house gang” in Petaluma and eventually becoming a gas serviceman in Santa Rosa. He developed lifelong friendships along the way. In retirement, he looked forward to monthly gatherings with the “gas guys.” He was also a dedicated service member of the Knights of Columbus.
Ruben was an avid sports enthusiast, dedicating countless hours to youth sports including the Petaluma Youth Soccer League’s Terror Soccer Club and the Petaluma Valley Little League as his sons grew up. Ruben found solace and joy in tending to his yard enjoying a few late afternoon beers with his neighbor, Bob. Ruben had a special bond with Rottweilers, all named after trees from Oak to Douglas Fir. Their home was always filled with their comforting presence which brought endless joy and companionship to Ruben’s life.
Above all, Ruben’s pride and joy were his three sons. He stood as a pillar of strength and wisdom, always providing them with unwavering support, guidance, and unconditional love. In addition to his devoted sons, Ruben is survived by his loving sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and John Gevas; nephews Michael Gevas and Peter Matzen; former spouse, Nancy Sala; and the extended Palucci, Eickmeyer, Wilfert and Praetzel families. He also leaves behind his loyal Rottweiler, Jack, who was a constant presence by his side.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Lourdes and the crew at Vineyard Post Acute; Annassa, Kevin and Joe from Hope for Seniors and the team at Providence Hospice for their loving care and support.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 26, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary and Crematory, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. A private interment will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Petaluma. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Providence Hospice
POEM FOR MY DAD
He never looks for praise.
He's never one to boast.
He just goes on quietly working
For those he loves the most.
His dreams are seldom spoken.
His wants are very few,
And most of the time his worries
Will go unspoken, too.
He's there...a firm foundation
Through all our storms of life,
A sturdy hand to hold onto
In times of stress and strife.
A true friend we can turn to
When times are good or bad.
One of our greatest blessings,
The man that we call Dad.
Just like we talked about Dad, we will meet again and pick up where we left off. We love you.
