SAM GUYTON JR., passed away on November 2, 2013 in Petaluma. Sam was born August 19, 1930, at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri and reared mainly in San Antonio, Texas. He attended Junior High in Sacramento and High School in Palm Springs.
Sam entered the Air Force and became a pilot. He obtained a BA in English from St. Mary's University, San Antonio and as an instructor pilot taught English at the USAF Academy Prep School. He flew reconnaissance in Vietnam and was awarded Air Medals, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Bronze Star. He accumulated 8000 hours of flying time in center-line thrust aircraft.
After retirement he and his family settled in Woodland Park, Colorado, where he appraised real estate for the county assessor. He and his wife became active in the county Republican Central Committee. He served two elective terms as a County Commissioner in Teller County.
He and his wife moved to Dallas when their three children were attending college. He worked as a technical writer for specialized computer applications. In December, 1998, Sam and Dee moved to Petaluma, CA to be nearer children and grandchildren on the West Coast.
He is survived by a daughter Teresa Guyton of Dallas, a daughter Judy and her husband Gary Dahle of LaVerne, CA and their two children, Jessica and Michael. A son Sam III and his wife Kelly have two sons, Brandon and Trevor, in Mill Valley, CA.
