Samuel Steward Oden

Samuel Steward Oden - Sam Oden passed away at his Cotati residence on May 2, 2012. Devoted husband of Rose Bell Eatman Oden of Cotati. Loving father of Harriett Oden, Samuel Oden, Jr. (Marion) all of Rohnert Park, Marisha Freeman (Alfred) of Indiana, and Harold Oden (Stephanie) of Petaluma. Cherished grandfather of Latisha Oden-Jones, Shawntell Oden-Randall, Samuel Oden-Randall, Lashell Oden-Randall, Larose Oden-Randall, Nathan Oden, Jordan Oden, Vanesha Church, Ciara Freeman, Alicia Oden, and Javonie Oden. Great-grandfather of Anthony Jones, Jr., Amiyah Ervins, and Shaniya Owens. Dear brother of Robert Earl Oden and the late Joseph Oden, Jr., and Jessiedean Oden. Survived by several nieces and nephews. Samuel worked and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an excellent husband, father and Grandpa. He will be missed by many, but never forgotten. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 13, 2012 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm with a Vigil at 6:00 pm at PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 12 Noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 150 St. Joseph Way, Cotati. Burial: Pleasant Hills Memorial Park, Sebastopol where he will receive an Air Force Honor Guard Burial. Samuel Steward Oden, Sr. was born on July 4, 1937 in New Bern, North Carolina to Furnie Joseph Oden and Mary Maggie Lena Brown. In 1955 Samuel graduated from Saint Joseph High School in New Bern, North Carolina and enlisted in the Air Force and retired after 20 years of loyal service. On December 18, 1960 he married Rose Bell Eatman. They moved to Sonoma County in 1970.
