SHEP SHEPHERD passed away peacefully on July 28, 2014 in Petaluma. Born Feb 23, 1931 in Petaluma. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Lou Shepherd, son Mike Shepherd (Margaret) of Petaluma, sister Deanie Turner and brother Ken Taylor both of Washington State. Grandchildren; Nathan Lessley (Jesse) of Portland, OR, Carly Shepherd and Andy Shepherd of Petaluma. Other survivors include good family friend Lee and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by daughter Debra Lessley. A Korean War veteran, Shep joined the Navy in 1948 and was stationed in California, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington State, Australia, Turks Islands and the Philippines retiring in 1968. He then went on to a second career as a mechanic in the motor-pool at the San Francisco Presidio retiring in 1992. Retirement was not enough for Shep, so during this time he worked as a courier for Northbay Savings Bank and drove the pick-up and delivery truck for Sacks Thrift Avenue (Hospice of Petaluma). A proud owner and enthusiast of the Ford Model A, Shep & Lou spent many weekends enjoying the back roads of Sonoma County in their Model A Sedan and more recently in a beautifully restored Model A Coupe. A collector of just about everything from bicycles to rare coins. Shep was a member of the Model A Club-Sonoma A's, Adobe Car Club, SIRS #53, Petaluma Museum Association and Heritage Homes. A Visitation service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations in memory of Shep to Hospice of Petaluma or to a favorite charity. Private Interment.
