Shirlee B. Johnston, 82, passed away in Santa Rosa, CA from a long illness on February, 23, 2020. She leaves her husband, Donald Francis Johnston of Santa Rosa and 2 children, Jennifer Lee Johnston of San Francisco, CA and Donald Scott Johnston of Amsterdam, the Netherlands and his husband Marcel Pieterse. Additionally a niece Susan Bousa of Wallingford Connecticut and her two children Courtney Estabrook Breuler and Joseph Estabrook both of Wallingford, as well as a nephew, Michael Bousa and his wife Robin and son Benjamin of New Hampshire. Shirlee is preceded in death by her parents; Anton Bousa and Agnes Bousa nee Shackley and a brother, Walter Shackley Bousa of Fairfield, Connecticut. She is survived by several cousins.
She was born on March 14, 1937 in Westerly, Rhode Island and raised in Stonington, Connecticut; graduated from Williams Memorial Institute, New London, Connecticut; Colby Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire and Katharine Gibbs School in New York City. She was a secretary at American Airlines and Executive Secretary at Eastern Airlines, both in New York City. She loved to travel and saw much of the United States, Japan, Hong Kong, Brazil and Mexico.
Shirlee married Donald Francis Johnston on July 15, 1967; they moved to Colts Neck, New Jersey in 1968 where two children were born: Jennifer Lee Johnston and D. Scott Johnston. In Colts Neck, Shirlee was a very active volunteer for the local Girl Scouts and the Parent Teachers Association. In 1982, the family moved to Moraga, California. Shirlee was employed as an Office Manager for a Property Tax Consulting Firm, Goodrich Ad Valorem Services in Walnut Creek, California. In 1996, Shirlee and Don moved to Santa Rosa, California. Here, she was employed part time as an Office Manager for an Environmental Consultant, Lumina Technologies, until her retirement.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. inside Madelyne’s Chapel at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery (2930 Bennett Valley Road, Santa Rosa, California, 95404). The family has asked that you contacted them for details.
