Former Petaluma resident Shirley Jane Butti, 86, passed away peacefully in Santa Rosa, California on Tuesday, March 27, 2018.
Shirley was born in Petaluma on July 14, 1931, to Clarence Tobin and Eileen Stretton Tobin. She was the youngest of five children, and grew up on the Burdell Ranch (now Olompoli State Park) north of Novato, California, and at Sartori Farms (now StoneTree Golf Club) in Black Point, California, both of which were managed by her parents. Shirley enjoyed caring for and riding her horses while growing up, and had many exciting stories about living on the farms. She always had a special place in her heart for animals, and cherished her pets. Shirley met and married her husband, the late Plinio (Pete) Butti, in 1952, and together they raised three sons, Gene, Ken, and Rick. She enjoyed gardening and collecting antiques (and just about anything else “collectible”). For a time, Shirley owned and operated an antique store, The General Store, in Petaluma. She was also one of the founding members of Heritage Homes in Petaluma.
Shirley is survived by her children Gene (Margie) of Foresthill, CA, Ken (Jen) of Lacey, WA, and Rick (Cheryl) of Petaluma, and her siblings, Lillian Cash of Carson City, NV, and Robert Tobin (Faye) of Redding, CA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Casey, Kevin, Anthony, Briana, and Adrien, and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Plinio, sister Wilma Thompson, and brother Clarence (Bud) Tobin, Jr.
