Shirley Jane Hartrich - Shirley Jane Hartrich passed away peacefully at home in Greenbrae while holding
Gene's hand on Saturday morning, December 18, 2010. She was 83 years old and was
born in the small town of Brush, Colorado on July 14, 1927 to Cordelia and Glen
Whisler. Shirley was proud of her Bastille Day birthday, and she and her family
celebrated with birthday dinners many times at The Left Bank Restaurant in
Larkspur. She comes from a large family of brothers and sisters.
Shirley attended Brush High School and stayed close to her circle of friends who
were together from kindergarten through 12th grade. They enjoyed many fun class
reunions together. During WWII she worked for the U.S. Government in San Diego.
She attended the University of New Hampshire and College of Marin.
During the last 35 years, Shirley and Gene split their time between their home in
Greenbrae and their place in Kona, Hawaii, where they loved to sail, relax and visit
with friends and neighbors.
Shirley was a wonderful wife and had many hobbies including gardening, cooking
fantastic dinners, ice-skating, golf, bowling, bridge, sewing, photography, her
pets, tennis, throwing fabulous parties and interior decorating with a very classy
style. She was a beautiful amazing woman, always kind and caring and gracious.
A private memorial service will be held in the spring. Any donations in Shirley's
name would be gratefully appreciated by Hospice of the Bay, 17 E. Sir Francis Drake
Blvd, Larkspur or a favorite charity of your choice.
Rest in peace, my sweet wife. Mom, we love you and you're with the angels now. We
will miss you Nana! You're the best!
Love always from your family.
Gene and Shirley married in 1946, and over the years the Hartrich's raised their
two sons in many places, including California, Colorado, New Jersey and New
Hampshire, finally settling in Marin County with their gorgeous view of sunsets over
Mt. Tamalpais.
