Susan Nervo Giammattei

Susan's life was tragically taken from her loved ones at the young age of 58 in Petaluma on July 28. A proud San Francisco Sunset District native and Petaluma resident. A graduate of Holy Name School, Star of the Sea HS, and SF State University. Susan was preceded by parents Ed & Genevieve Matthiessen Nervo, survived by her adoring husband Joe Giammattei. She was proud to carry on the The Nervo Vineyard that her family owned since 1896. Patient and soft-spoken, temperate and measured, possessing a wide breadth of knowledge, an easy smile and quick wit, Susan will be dearly missed by her many friends and loved ones. Susan documented every day of her life, maintained passionate interest in local history, enjoyed researching her family's genealogy, and possessed a special knack for remembering dates and numbers. She recently retired from S.F. Recreation and Parks Dept. after a distinguished 36-year career in horticulture as a supervisor at the S.F. Botanical Garden, a job she loved. Always a classic automobile enthusiast, owning a 1960 Chevy Impala for 30+yrs., attending countless car shows with Joe, including their annual trip to Reno for Hot August Nights, and secretary for Cruisin' the Blvd. Throughout her life she was an animal lover, Humane Society donor, and devoted caregiver to her dogs and cats. Susan was an authentic, meticulous and principled woman with a wonderful sense of humor and positive attitude. Contributions can be made to the Ukiah Humane Society or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in Susan's name. Friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass, Friday, August 5, 2016 at 10:30 am at Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 1555 39th Ave., San Francisco. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm at the PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma. Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Visitation
