Thea Hendriks - On December 6, 2012, surrounded by her family, Thea peacefully passed from this world after a short illness. Born in Utrecht, the Netherlands on July 13, 1921, she was raised in s-Hertogenbosch in the southern part of the Netherlands. Her studies in a Catholic convent were cut short by the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands in 1940. She quickly joined the Red Cross to care for civilians displaced and injured during the occupation. During the war she met Gerard, a member of the Dutch underground and they fell in love and were married in 1946. They both immigrated to the United States in 1951, being sponsored directly by two members of the American 101st Airborne division, whom Gerard had befriended during the war. Thea is the loving mother of Paul Hendriks (Suzy) of San Rafael, CA and Marianne Asbury (Terry) of Kelseyville, CA Devoted Oma of Alexander and Cynthia Hendriks and Kimberly and Jessica Asbury Loving Tante of Joanne Belloumini and Michele Wicor Beloved friend of Monsignor Gerard Fahey She also leaves behind many relatives in the Netherlands. Thea is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 51 years, Gerard Hendriks, and her sisters, Cory Van Drunen and Caroline Wicor. Thea was at her happiest on the dance floor, whether at the East Bay Dutch Club, St Raphael"s auditorium, Star of the Valley Parish Center, or wherever there was a willing partner. She will be remembered for her caring and generous spirit. Her family finds comfort in the fact that Thea passed away on the feast day of St. Nicholas, a traditional Dutch holiday. She will live forever in our hearts.
