Thelma Maxine Thompson, known as Maxine, peacefully passed on away on April 2, 2015 in Santa Rosa.
Maxine was born in Grinnell, Iowa on June 17, 1920.
On her 18th birthday, she married the love of her life, C.W. Tommy Thompson. They cherished their 55 years of marriage until Tommy passed away in 1993. Together they had three children: the late Ken Thompson of Wheeler ,Oregon, Patty Pomi of Petaluma and Barbara Joy of Santa Rosa. Maxine loved and enjoyed her 8 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, all of whom adored her.
Most important to Maxine were her family and service to others. She supported and did volunteer work for many organizations throughout her lifetime. After her husband passed away she began volunteering on a full time basis for Petaluma Hospice Sack's Thrift Store. In 2000 she was presented with the Sacks Volunteer of the Year Award. During this time, she also provided blankets and warm clothing to COTS in Petaluma. For this 80 year old quiet and gentle being, she found a special joy and fulfillment in serving these two organizations.
Maxine always offered a helping hand and word of encouragement to anyone who came her way. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, a Scarlett Scott Fund has been set up at the Bank of America in Santa Rosa. Scarlett, age 8 years, is one of Maxine's great granddaughters. Scarlett has a genetic, incurable disease called Neurofibromatosis, known as NF1. Much like her great grandmother, Scarlett always has a kind word and wants to heal the world. This fund will provide her with some extra joys in her life. There is no doubt that this is what Maxine would want for her. Anyone who would like to contribute can send a check payable to Scarlett Scott in care of Barbara Joy, 1982 Seville Street, Santa Rosa, Ca. 95403. If you would like to know about Scarlett's journey, her website is scarlettscott.com.
There will be a family gathering on April 26th to celebrate Maxine's life. A private family inurnment at Cypress Hill Memorial Park will follow cremation. Family assisted by Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory, Petaluma, California.
