Tom Fresquez, born on July 23, 1931, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025. Tom was born in Platteville, Colorado to Louis and Eloisa Fresquez. Tom and his siblings moved from Colorado to Oakland, California in 1937 and a few years later, they relocated to Richmond, CA.
As a young boy, Tom enjoyed tap dancing with the Scotty Weston dance group, performing on stage at Sweet’s ballroom in Oakland. As a lifelong sports enthusiast, Tom became a charter member of the Richmond Boys Club in 1942. He loved most sports but excelled in basketball and baseball. Tom attended Richmond High School, making a name for himself in baseball. Tom met his beloved wife Nancy on a baseball field at the end of their junior year. After high school, Tom began working at Chevron Corporation at the Richmond refinery. Tom and Nancy were married in 1952 before Tom joined the US Airforce where he was stationed in Chateauroux, France where Tom was named Airman of the Month. Upon his return from France, Tom and Nancy were stationed in Roswell, New Mexico for a short time.
Upon returning to the Bay Area and after Tom’s honorable discharge from the Airforce in 1955, Tom returned to Chevron where he had a successful 42-year career working in Richmond, San Francisco, and San Ramon in various positions, mostly in Purchasing and Marketing and as an auditor.
Tom moved his family to Petaluma in 1969. When he wasn’t working, Tom obtained his AA degree from Santa Rosa Junior College. He also coached Little League baseball.
When Tom retired, he and Nancy spent time traveling throughout the US and in Europe. He was a member of SIRS and was elected Area Governor, serving 3 years from 2004 to 2006. Tom was also an Elk and a member of the Penngrove Social Fireman’s group. Tom was a devout Lutheran and was an active member of St. John Lutheran in Petaluma where he enjoyed singing in the choir.
Tom played golf in retirement, and when he was no longer able to play sports, he watched golf and his favorite teams, the Giants and the Warriors, enthusiastically on television, his favorite past time when he wasn’t spending time with his wife, his children and his grandchildren.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents & siblings, his wife Nancy and his daughter Pamela Taylor. Tom survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Brian & Sheri Fresquez, his daughter Kristin Fresquez, his granddaughters Erin Fresquez, Natalie Taylor, and Sarah Clemens, his great grandchildren Gianna Rae Torres and Jameson Fresquez, his nephew Jeff Bertotti and his niece Jennifer Sova.
Services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, 455 McNear Ave, Petaluma, CA 94952 on Saturday, August 9 at 11 am followed by a celebration of life.
