Tressa Patricia "Patty" Leoni

March 26, 1922 (Council Bluffs, IA) – June 23, 2017 (Petaluma).

Born of Gladys Blanche Brethauer and James Walter McCarthy, Patty McCarthy met Angelo Leoni in 1945 in Omaha, Nebraska where he was a medical student.  Prior to that auspicious meeting, Patty worked in the Martin bomber plant near Omaha, where the B26 Marauder was assembled to assist in the war effort.  A highlight of that time was the visit of President Franklin D. Roosevelt to the bomber plant.  He shook her hand, greeting her, “Hello, Blondie,” to which she replied, “Hello, Prez.” She married Angelo in 1947 and moved with him to Keesler Army Air Corps Base, where he served in the Medical Corps.  By 1950, they had made their home in San Francisco where their third child was born.  They eventually moved their home to Petaluma where the family thrived for the next 66 years.   Patty is survived by her sister, Constance McCarthy Christilles of Manchester NH; Patty and Angelo’s children: Patrick Angelo Leoni (Sherry N. Michael) of Sonoma, Marguerite Mary Leoni (Derek T. Knudsen) of Kentfield, Michael Kelly Leoni (Janis Fay) of Hanford, Charles Joseph Leoni (Nancy) of Petaluma, Angela Josephine Mary Leoni (James C. Crabb) of Petaluma, James Francis Leoni of Petaluma, Peter Vincent Leoni of Petaluma, Mary Patricia Leoni (Wayne W. Eggert) of San Rafael, Giovanni Giuseppi Leoni (Sara) of Redwood City; 27 grandchildren including Patricia Louisa Leoni (Tim Shetz) of San Rafael; four great grandchildren, and 33 nieces and nephews (at last count).

She was the apple of her father’s eye, the love of Angelo’s life, and his true and faithful partner, the mother of the Leoni Family, an exceptional manager, and the family’s heart, soul and salvation.
