Tsutomu "Tom" Taniguchi, 88, passed away on January 23, 2017. Tom was born in Sebastopol, CA, in 1928, the son of Toshio and Isano Taniguchi.
He was taken to Japan as an infant and was raised in Hiroshima, Japan, with his six siblings. After WWII, at the age of 17, Tom returned to Sebastopol where he worked in the apple industry for his uncles and later for a local grower. At the age of 40, he started working for the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Santa Rosa until he retired in 1991.
Tom's passion was fishing. He loved to spend time with friends and family exploring the rivers and coastal regions. He was also a lifelong member of the Enmanji Buddhist Temple.
Tom leaves his wife of 59 years, Teruyo (Michihisa) Taniguchi, son Bob Taniguchi and spouse Kim Anh, of San Jose, CA, and daughter Teri Kobayashi and spouse Arthur, of Pleasanton, CA and four grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service, Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the Enmanji Buddhist Temple (1200 Gravenstein Highway South, Sebastopol, CA, 95472). Private inurnment. Celebration of Life
