VERA MAY BENJAMIN of Petaluma passed away peacefully into God's hands on February 17, 2016. Vera was born in Los Angeles and was a direct descendant of Peter Rainsford Brady who was an early settler and a politician in the Arizona Territory.
She married Robert Benjamin on May 9, 1944 in Los Angeles and they had nine children. They moved to Petaluma in 1961.
Vera and Robert were founding members of St. James Parish in Petaluma where she was an active member, serving on many committees including Finance and the Alter Society. Her greatest contribution was to the youth education at both St. Vincent de Paul and St. James serving as the Director of Religious Education for many years.
In retirement, Vera traveled with her husband through out the U.S., Canada, and Europe. After his death Vera traveled to Italy and Australia. In addition to traveling she enjoyed her rose garden, needlework and good mystery novels.
Vera is survived by her children Vera Anderson, Tim Benjamin, Mary Benjamin, Roberta Benjamin, Cecilia Curry, Debbie Baddeley, Annette Mayne, Stephen Benjamin, and Brian Benjamin. She is also survived by her sister Ann Padillia of Arizona; sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Vera was preceeded in death by her husband Robert, her brothers Gerald Brady, William Brady and her sister Carol Gamino.
The family would like to express its gratitude to Sequoia Senior Solutions, Sunrise Assisted Living and Kaiser Hospital.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 2, 2016 at St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Parkway, Petaluma Ca.
