V.L. “Skip” Grube passed away on September 12th, peacefully surrounded by his family, at the age of 86.

Skip served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964. After his service, he began his long and dedicated career with the Penngrove Fire Department, from 1966 to 1996. He became Fire Chief in 1973 and proudly served in that role until his retirement in 1996. After retiring from the fire department, Skip continued his passion for the fire service by selling fire trucks for Ferrara Fire Apparatus, INC, finally retiring in 2018.

Grass never grew very tall under Skip’s feet — he was always active, always involved, always moving. He poured his energy into his hobbies: designing and building layouts for his train collection, flying his remote‑control airplanes, and mowing the neighbor’s grass, making sure the area around his home was always perfectly manicured. He loved boating at his second home in Lakeport and traveling to Europe with his wife and friends.

Skip was a faithful 49ers fan and attended games when they played in San Francisco. He was also a proud and active member of many organizations, including the Petaluma Elks, Petaluma Druids, Wine Country Corvette Club, Petaluma Riding and Driving Club, and the Liberty Field Flying Club.

Skip is survived by his daughters Michelle and Toni (and her husband, John Azevedo), and his son David. He will be lovingly remembered by his cherished grandchildren Ali, Andy, Katie, and Kendall. He is also survived by his sister‑in‑law Marcia Gazzola; nieces Diana and Sharon O’Brien; relatives of Brent Chadwick, Kelly Chadwick Janney, Sharon Chadwick Albertonini, the late Bob Chadwick, and Bud Chadwick; and George and Liz Grube and family from Ripon.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carla Grube.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Claudia and Carol with Firstlight for the care, compassion, and support they gave our dad. Their kindness meant so much to our family, and we are deeply grateful for all they did.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
